How Personality Shapes the Way We Use AI at Work
This November, the spotlight is on AI, as artificial intelligence continues to reshape the way we work. Yet, the impact of AI isn’t experienced the same way by everyone. Recent research from Hogan Assessments sheds light on how personality influences the way people use, trust, and respond to AI tools in the workplace.
The Study Hogan surveyed over 400 working adults in the U.S., examining how attitudes toward AI correlate with results from three key personality assessments: the Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI), the Hogan Development Survey (HDS), and the Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory (MVPI).
Key Findings
-
Frequent Users & Enthusiasts: Individuals who are high in Inquisitive (HPI); Bold, Mischievous, Colorful, Imaginative (HDS); and Recognition & Aesthetics (MVPI), but low in Security, tend to use AI most often and see it as a valuable performance tool.
-
Trust in Accuracy: People scoring high in Prudence (HPI); Diligent & Dutiful (HDS); and Power & Tradition (MVPI) are more likely to view AI as reliable and accurate.
-
Concerns About Job Security: Those low in Adjustment (HPI) and high in Excitable, Skeptical, Cautious, Reserved, or Leisurely (HDS) are more prone to worry about AI threatening their roles.
Implications for Organizations Understanding these personality-driven differences can help organizations anticipate how employees will respond to AI and other emerging technologies. Who will embrace it eagerly? Who might resist? Who needs reassurance and guidance?
At Personality Guidance AG and metaBeratung, the official Hogan distributor, we leverage Hogan assessments to help organizations make smarter talent decisions—whether it’s selecting, developing, or supporting employees through periods of rapid change.
