AI is making CVs better… but is it making hiring easier?
A recent article from NZZ described a recruiter who received more than 100 applications for a single position in just one week. Thanks to AI, many CVs looked almost perfect, they contained all the right keywords and appeared highly relevant at first glance. Yet after a closer human review, only three candidates advanced to the next stage of the selection process.
At the same time, Hogan Assessments recently analysed over 300,000 personality assessments to investigate whether ChatGPT was changing assessment results. Surprisingly, they found almost no meaningful differences in personality scores before and after the release of ChatGPT.
As AI makes applications increasingly polished, CVs alone become less effective at predicting who will truly succeed. Research shows that 46% of new hires fail within 18 months, and in 89% of those cases, it’s not due to a lack of technical skills, but because of poor person-job fit. A company may advertise for a “communicative accountant,” while actually needing someone who is conscientious, detail-oriented, and enjoys working independently.
